Day 11-July 13, 2012
Contents:
Deuteronomy 1:1-23:19
Observations:
Deuteronomy is Moses explaining the Law to the second generation Israelites, before they enter the Promised Land, because if they screw up like their parents, they might lose the land, too.
9:4---God didn't give them the land out of their goodness, but out of the other nations' wickedness.
Moses is constantly reminding the second generation Israelites that God is putting them first for no reason, but the promise he gave their ancestors.
God doesn't want Israel to have a king, but knowing they will ask for one he gives them specifications on who the king must be, what he must do, and how he must act.
The king must be and Israelite.
The king must not
--go to Egypt
--have more than one wife
--accumulate personal wealth
The king must
--copy the Law (Genesis-Deuteronomy)
--keep his copy with him
--read his copy daily
