Observations and Questions:

Job:
Elihu continues to be long winded
God comes to Job in a rushing wind with Questions:
--where were you when i laid the foundation of the earth?
--Have you ever commanded the morning to appear?
--have you ever visited the storehouses of the snow and hail?
--Do you know the laws of the universe?

Behemoth
---giant land or sea creature
---only God is a threat
---eats grass
---tail as strong as a cedar
---bones are like bronze
---limbs are like iron
---hides in lotus plants and marsh reeds
---untamable

Leviathan
---untamable
---unable to be captured
---enormous strength
---graceful form
---armored hide
---terrible teeth
---scales like rows of shields, sealed together, interlocked, un-penetrable, with no air in between
---when it sneezes, light flashes
---red eyes
---lightning and fire from its mouth
---smoke from nostrils
---fears nothing
---belly has sharp scales

God is angry with Job's friends and tell them to each give Job seven bulls and seven rams for burnt offerings, Job must bless them

Job received twice what he had before, and seven more sons and three more daughters---none more lovely could be found than his daughters.


Exodus:

about 300 years after Joseph

Moses's mother set him in a basket in the reeds, while his sister watched over him
Pharaoh's daughter found him
Miriam asked if she wanted a Hebrew woman to nurse him, and went to get their mother

Did Moses know he was a Hebrew?

Moses runs to Midian at the age of 40 after killing an Egyptian and married the high priest's daughter and has two sons

When Moses returns to Egypt around the age of 80, he warns Pharaoh that his first born will die if he hardens his heart to them

Plague 1- Water to blood
all the water in Egypt and Goshen is turned to blood
Pharaoh's magicians could do it too---How did they have water to turn to blood?
Pharaoh hardens his heart
7 days pass

Plague 2-Frogs
Frogs came from the waters and covered everything in Egypt and Goshen
Pharaoh's magicians could do it too---How did they know there were more frogs?
Pharaoh asked Moses and Aaron to ask God to get rid of the frogs
All the frogs that were not in the Nile died

Pharaoh hardens his heart

Plague 3-Gnats
The dust turns to gnats in Egypt and Goshen
Magicians couldn't do it
Pharaoh hardens his heart

Plague 4-Flies
There were only flies in Egypt, not in Goshen
Pharaoh allows time off for sacrifices only in Egypt, Moses insists they must leave
Pharaoh agrees, and asks for prayer
Moses and the flies leave
Pharaoh changes his mind

Plague 5-Death of livestock
Livestock die
All the livestock in Egypt but not Goshen
Pharaoh hardens his heart

Plague 6-Boils
Moses and Aaron throw soot into the air and it causes boils on everything in Egypt, but not Goshen
God harden's Pharaoh's heart

Plague 7-Hail
God is using Egypt to show his power
Hail will fall and kill everything that is outside in Egypt, but not Goshen
Some officials listen and brought everything inside
Egypt is left in ruins
Pharaoh relents but changes his mind

Plague 8-Locusts
Locusts cover the ground threatened
Pharaoh's officers tell him to let the men go
Moses says all people and flocks and herds must go
Pharaoh refuses
Locust swarm, destroying every plant in Egypt, but not Goshen
Pharaoh asks for forgiveness and the locust leave
God hardened Pharaoh's heart

Plague 9-Darkness
Darkness so thick in Egypt that it can be felt, but Goshen has light
Last three days
Pharaoh says all people can go, but flocks and herds must stay, Moses says they need sacrifices
Pharaoh tells Moses to never return

Plague 10-Death of the Firstborn
Of both human and livestock
Pharaoh's son is killed

Pharaoh orders Israel to leave
